MURPHY AVENUE PET CLINIC's Tour

  • The Hospital

This is our quiet little hospital in downtown Sunnyvale. We are on the corner of Murphy Ave and Hendy Ave., across the railroad tracks from downtown Sunnyvale and Sunnyvale Town Center. The dog entrance is on Hendy and the cat entrance is on Murphy. With 30 minute appointments, the pace is a little more relaxed than some other hospitals. Please do not take this relaxed atmosphere for inferior quality of medicine or surgery. We pride ourselves on practicing quality medicine and offering gold standard work-ups.

  • Dog Exam Room

This is Dr. Ken Sawyer and his recently deceased dog Skylar in the spacious dog room (Skylar was an 85# American Staffordshire Terrier). We have an electric lift table to make examinations of both large and small dogs easy. No lifting of heavy dogs required. A towel on the table is available upon request, as most towels end up on the floor while the dog is still up on the table.

Our 3rd exam room, it got it's name because it is painted a soft green, although you can't tell from the photo. We use this room for potentiallly contagious animals.

  • In-house laboratory

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15463

This is a part of our in-house lab. Cytology smears, CBC's, urine rechecks, and blood centrifugation are performed here.

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15958

Pictured are our in-house blood chemistry, CBC and electrolyte machines. The blood machines make it easy to check the kidneys and liver prior to an anesthesia, perform complete panels while you wait, or in case of an emergency can deliver fast, accurate information prior to treatment. We also do rechecks with our chronic kidney and liver disease and diabetic patients. Results are usually available in 15 minutes!

  • Treatment Room

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15551

The treatment table is where we induce our animals for anesthesia, prep them for surgery, perform dental cleanings, and perform various treatments including blood and urine collections, anal gland expressions, and mat clipping. A raised tub in the background is where we bathe the pets. The cabinets contain supplies for treatments (bandage materials, syringes, collection tubes, etc.). The anesthetic machine uses only Isoflurane gas anesthesia, one of the safest and fastest gas anesthesias available. We also have monitors for blood oxygenation, heartrate, blood pressure, temperature, and breathing rate, which we use on all anesthetic cases.

  • Treatment Cages

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15533

This is where our hospitalized animals stay. It is within the treatment area for easy monitoring during the day. We have four IV infusion pumps for accurate administration of fluids to our sick patients.

  • Radiology

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15961

This is our new x-ray machine. We can usually take and develop x-rays within 20 minutes, so we can have answers while you wait!

    Radiology
  • Dental Radiography

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=48471

We regularly use our dental radiograph machine. When we perform dental cleanings, we can evaluate the tooth crown and any pockets found, but are usually unable to see what is going on beneath the gumline. Just like your dentist takes mouth x-rays, we strongly recommend doing the same while your pet is undergoing its oral procedure. We can only treat what we know about, and this is another way we provide quality care for your pet.

    Dental Radiography
  • Surgery Room

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15534

This is where our sterile surgical procedures take place. An isoflurane gas anesthesia machine, warm water heating pad, and monitors are used to make the surgery as safe as possible.

  • Isolation Ward

    /Images/ViewImage.aspx?maxHeight=300&maxWidth=500&Id=15962

This area is reserved for contagious hospitalized pets. It is separated from the rest of the hospital to keep the other pets safe, but is near the treatment area for quality care.
